Despite his short, bulky frame, standing a 5'8", Moks fights in the mixed martial arts middleweight division;[2] he is also a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.[1] Moks' professional MMA career began with a first round submission victory against Abeku Afful[3] in a Berlin-based promotion.[4] His next two fights were held a year apart and both ended with Moks defeated via TKO.[5][6] After another year out of competition, Moks defeated Rastislav Hanulay[7] via rear naked choke.[8]
Despite a 2-2 professional record,[1] Moks joined M-1 Global to take part in their Western Europe selection series. His first fight was against the Italian-based Serghei Popa[9] where Moks claimed the third submission victory of his professional career,[1] defeating Popa about 4 minutes into the opening round.[10] Moks progressed to the semi-finals of the series where he faced Croatian Danijel Dzebic[11] in May 2010.[12] Moks again achieved victory by submission, this time using a guillotine choke with just four seconds remaining in the opening round.[13]
Going into the Western Europe final, Moks faced the more experienced Ahmed Bayrak.[14] Like Moks, Bayrak had progressed to the final after two submission victories.[15] In a back-and-forth fight, Moks showed his capability to endure multiple punches and ability to fight off his back which proved valuable, as Moks outlasted Bayrak to take a unanimous decision.[2]
The win made Moks the M-1 Global Western European Champion in the middleweight division and lined him up to face Magomed Sultanakhmedov,[16] winner of the Eastern European Championship, for the M-1 Global Middleweight title.[2] This title fight took place in Moscow on December 10, 2010, at the M-1 Challenge XXII event.[17] Rafal won the bout and is expected to hold his first title defence against Tyson Jeffries,[18] the 2010 M-1 Global Americas Selection Champion.[2]
